Description
This much-loved family home, acquired in 1972, is filled with a remarkable collection of antiques, art, and treasures collected over a life time of travels. Every room carries a story, blending character and comfort in a way that speaks to decades of appreciation for culture, craftsmanship, and heritage. The house has been thoughtfully preserved, allowing guests to step into a space rich with personality and warmth.
Known as one of the historic Hen and Chickens cottages, this property dates back to 1864 and is now protected as an important example of early New Zealand architecture. For its era, the interior feels unexpectedly spacious, light, and airy, complemented by special features such as original French and barn doors, ornate fireplaces, and the natural warmth of Kauri and Rimu throughout. It offers a rare blend of authenticity while still offering modern amenities.
The home enjoys an enviable location close to Pukekura Park—home to iconic events such as WOMAD, the Festival of Lights, and various international attractions. The garden itself is a peaceful sanctuary, thoughtfully designed with a stunning mix of native and introduced species. Magnificent trees, including a protected Pohutukawa and Oak, anchor the landscape, creating a tranquil oasis despite being just a short walk from the vibrant CBD.
